Perler Beads | Painting | Magic Nuudles | Science Play

Magic Nuudles are such a great craft because they are easy, colorful, and can be used safely by kids of all ages.  Magic Nuudles look a little like packing peanuts and are made from cornstarch and food grade dye, so even if your little ones are putting them in their mouth, they will be okay.  Magic Nuudles also dissolve in water so they don’t pose a choking hazard.

Instructions for Magic Nuudle Projects

DO NOT DIP the Magic Nuudles in water.  Use a wet sponge or wet paper towel and have the kids lightly press a magic nuudle on the sponge or paper towel. When the magic nuudle is just a little damp press it against another magic nuudle, paper, or a glass window.  It will stick!!!  Allow kids to build buildings, hats, and even animals with the magic nuudles.

Magic Nuudle Projects:

There are so many ways that Magic Nuudles can be used.

- Windows/Glass: My 9 year old daughter has enjoyed putting them on the window as a rainbow, flowers, and even trees.  Magic Nuudles make very fun Christmas decorations. Just imagine the kids putting a Christmas Tree on the patio door and then using brightly colored nuudles for the lights and decorations.  Once the holidays are over, just pull the magic nuudles off of the window and use water or glass cleaner to remove any leftover nuudle.

- Paper Projects: Another fun way to use the nuudles is for paper projects.  Let the kids color a blank sheet of paper, or use one of the reproducible coloring books, then allow them to place magic nuudles on their paper in a design or to make letters or their name.  Magic nuudles also stick to construction paper for a beautiful 3-D creation.

- Building Projects: The options really are unlimited with magic nuudles and building. See some ideas of what other kids are doing here. Barbershop hats have been a favorite at our house, along with animals as diverse as snakes to horses.  Magic nuudles can be cut with a scissors to make round “dots”, or longer/thinner pieces.  Children can also make boats, log cabins, or other structures with the Magic Nuudles.

What will my kids learn while using Magic Nuudles? Very young children will learn about colors and early patterns as they place the nuudles onto paper or a window.  Older kids will become young engineers as they create a fun structure that actually stays together.

Favorite Magic Nuudle Products
Any of the very large bags of Magic Nuudles are a wonderful way to get kids creating with Magic Nuudles.  I also really like the Alphabet and Numbers Coloring Book.  Make copies of the pages and let your whole class learn the letters and numbers while creating a fun project to take home. Here are templates for the letters and numbers to print out and allow kids to decorate.  Better yet, cut them out of cardboard for a firmer base for the magic nuudles.  The Uudles of Nuudles idea book has also been very popular for the older kids.  Colored pictures and great patterns make it easy for kids to create complex projects for holidays and other fun.
